TradeRisks financial and funding advice helps secure the Wolfson Economics Prize

Pete Redman of TradeRisks provided his financial experience of social housing development and of regeneration projects as a member of the team that, last night, won the much coveted and influential Wolfson Economics Prize.  David Rudlin of URBED received a £250,000 cheque at a gala dinner and awards ceremony.

The essay illustrated how we could double the size of the historic, if fictional, city of Uxcester, and then applied the ideas to the very real issues being faced in Oxford. Our Garden City was one grown from the strong rootstock of an existing place rather than a freestanding new town. We identify 40 towns and cities where the model could be applied and are already in discussion with a number of places interested in applying the ideas. Our full essay was published last week and is available here.

Pete Redman said: “We envisage three extensions providing housing, schools, parks and other amenities as well as an improved transport system for the “host” city.  Over thirty years the housing stock could grow by 70,000 dwellings of all tenures and £6bn of infrastructure investment including subsidy generated for affordable housing.”

The 2014 Wolfson Economics Prize - the second most valuable economic prize after the Nobel Prize – was for the best answer to: “How would you deliver a new Garden City which is visionary, economically viable, and popular?” For competition details seehttp://www.policyexchange.org.uk/wolfsonprize/item/wolfson-economics-prize-2014
